From sweeping savannahs rich with wildlife to mist-covered forests alive with rare primates, this itinerary brings together two iconic landscapes to create one seamless and deeply memorable adventure.

Day 1 – 2

Hemingways Nairobi, Kenya

Begin your journey in Nairobi’s leafy suburb of Karen at Hemingways Nairobi. Overlooking the Ngong Hills, the hotel offers a tranquil setting to relax after arrival while preparing for the safari ahead.

Guests may choose to explore some of Nairobi’s unique cultural and wildlife experiences, including visits to the Giraffe Centre, the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, or the Karen Blixen Museum.

Evenings are best enjoyed at The Brasserie, where refined cuisine and warm hospitality provide the perfect introduction to East Africa.

Day 3 – 5

Hemingways Ol Seki Mara or River Camp Mara, Maasai Mara, Kenya

Fly into the legendary Maasai Mara, one of Africa’s most celebrated wildlife destinations. Vast savannah landscapes support an extraordinary concentration of animals, including lion, elephant, buffalo, rhino and leopard, the iconic Big Five.

Days are spent exploring the plains on expertly guided game drives, with opportunities to witness the region’s remarkable wildlife and, depending on the season, the dramatic spectacle of the Great Migration.

Between adventures, return to camp to enjoy sweeping views across the Mara. Sundowners on the plains, fireside evenings beneath vast African skies and relaxed dining complete the classic safari experience.

Day 6 – 7

The Retreat, Kigali, Rwanda

Continue your journey to Rwanda’s vibrant capital, Kigali. Known for its creativity, cleanliness and warm hospitality, the city offers a fascinating introduction to Rwanda’s culture and history.

Stay at The Retreat, a tranquil boutique sanctuary set within lush gardens in the heart of the city. Guests may explore Kigali’s galleries, craft markets and cultural landmarks, including the Kigali Genocide Memorial, before continuing onward to Rwanda’s volcanic highlands.

Day 8 – 9

Volcanoes National Park, Rwanda

Travel to the mist-covered forests of Volcanoes National Park for one of the world’s most extraordinary wildlife encounters: mountain gorilla trekking.

Accompanied by experienced trackers, hike through bamboo forests and dense vegetation in search of a habituated gorilla family. Spending time quietly observing these remarkable primates in their natural habitat is a deeply moving and humbling experience.

For those wishing to explore further, an optional extra night in Volcanoes National Park can be added to experience golden monkey trekking, offering the chance to encounter these playful and endangered primates that inhabit the bamboo forests of the Virunga Mountains.
Return to The Retreat to relax and reflect on this extraordinary encounter with one of the world’s most remarkable species, a truly unforgettable, once-in-a-lifetime experience, before departing Rwanda the following day.
