Hemingways Eden Residence is a charming boutique residence and private gallery nestled in the leafy suburbs of Karen, Langata. The residence borders the Giraffe Sanctuary forest on the outskirts of Nairobi.

The property was originally built in 1992 by artists, Tonio and Anna Trzebinski, as a family home and was later converted into a residence and art gallery. Hemingways Eden Residence is now a member of Hemingways Collection, a group of luxury boutique hotels and camps. It came under the management of Hemingways Collection in 2022 and offers warm Kenyan hospitality combined with luxury international standards.

Nights at Hemingways Eden Residence come alive with the sounds of hyena, bush babies and many more creatures residing in the neighboring wildlife sanctuary, a 100-acre indigenous forest home to over 200 bird species.

Hemingways Eden Residence offers an immersive contemporary cultural experience by being a platform from which guests experience Nairobi in a unique way.

Nairobi National Park, the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, Karen Blixen Museum and the Giraffe Centre are all within a short driving distance and the hotel is within easy reach of Nairobi’s most interesting restaurants, eclectic shopping experiences and artist studios.

Set on Leafy Grounds, Hemingways Eden Residence is comprised of Nine Rooms in total: Three in the Main House and Five in the Studio Annex, and the cottage. The main house is equipped with a beautiful open-plan dining area, bar, living room with fireplace and veranda as well as a divinity room.

The Studio Annex has Three Standalone Studio Lofts with a Bedroom and Bathroom on the ground floor and living area above. Two other Bedrooms sit above another enchantingly designed open-plan living room with a fireplace, bar and dining area.

Climate
& weather

High on a hilltop near the equator, Nairobi and its surroundings enjoy a temperate climate most of the year. At an altitude of 1700m or 5500ft. humidity is very low and nights are cool.

The summer months are sunny and hot but not unbearably sweltering whilst the winters are mild but never shivering cold. There are two monsoons and rainfall is moderate; the wettest months of the year are April and May, when days are typically cloudy with downpours. There are four seasons but these are not always distinct with the rains sometimes early and often late.

Destination

Nairobi

Just 40 minutes’ drive from Nairobi’s international airport and set between Nairobi National Park and the foot of the Ngong Hills, Hemingways Nairobi Hotel is located to the South West of the city in the peaceful suburb of Karen. It is generally believed that the suburb was named after Karen Blixen, the Danish author of Out of Africa; her farm was located just 2 minutes’ drive from the hotel.

Major tourist attractions are within close proximity to the hotel including the Nairobi National Park, the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, famous for rehabilitating orphaned elephants, and the Giraffe Sanctuary. Hemingways Nairobi is also well positioned for business travellers visiting Kenya with excellent transport links to Jomo Kenyatta and Wilson Airports and easy access to the CBD.
