Sustaining our people, places, and wildlife. One meaningful partnership at a time.

We support and collaborate with NGOs and grassroots organisations dedicated to sustainability and social progress.
Our team and guests contribute to programmes that improve education, health, and livelihoods across Kenya.
From coral reefs to grasslands, we help conserve the natural beauty that makes Kenya unforgettable.
Hemingways Collection proudly supports local rugby development through partnerships with Nondescripts RFC (Nondies) and South Coast Pirates in Diani. These grassroots initiatives provide young players with access to training, mentorship, and competitive sport—fostering talent, teamwork, and opportunity within the communities we call home.
Hemingways Eden partners with One Horizon, a Nairobi-based non-profit dedicated to uplifting vulnerable communities through education, nutrition, and skills development. Since 2007, the organisation has transformed thousands of lives through child rescue centres, daily feeding programmes, and sustainable income-generating initiatives such as candle and jewellery making.
Our support extends beyond financial contributions. Hemingways staff regularly volunteer at One Horizon centres, offering hands-on help, from preparing meals and supporting art classes to delivering essential food supplies. Guests are also invited to visit a centre during their stay. These immersive visits offer a rare opportunity to engage with the community directly, with guest contributions helping fund life-changing programmes for women and children across Nairobi.
At Ol Seki Mara, conservation is not a concept. It’s a lived commitment rooted in the landscape and the people who call it home. Located within one of the most ecologically rich ecosystems in the world, we are proud members of Eco Tourism Kenya and hold a Silver rating for our sustainable tourism practices. Our semi-permanent camp is thoughtfully designed to minimise environmental impact, with ongoing efforts to preserve the natural balance of the Mara.
More than 60% of our team is made up of local Maasai community members. Many had limited access to formal education, and through in-camp training, they’ve gained valuable skills that support their families and shape long-term careers.
River Camp Mara is a proud and long-standing member of Mara North Conservancy (MNC), a leading example of community-based conservation in the Masai Mara ecosystem. MNC spans over 74,000 acres of pristine savannah and is co-managed by over 800 Maasai landowners in partnership with a select group of tourism operators. This innovative model ensures that landowners receive direct financial benefits from conservation, incentivising the protection of wildlife habitats and the reduction of fencing and incompatible land uses.
Your stay helps support our ongoing partnership with The Maa Trust, a community development organisation making a lasting impact in the Mara. In 2024, Hemingways Ol Seki Mara co-funded the region’s first theatre, neonatal unit, and maternity shelter at CHP Talek Health Centre. The Trust also empowers local women through beadwork initiatives and invests in education by supporting Olesere Primary School and the Koiyaki Guiding School. Guests are welcome to visit The Maa Trust during their stay to see these initiatives in action and learn more about the community’s work.
We proudly train and employ nearly 1,000 local team members across Kenya and Rwanda—many of whom have been with us for years. From chefs and guides to housekeepers and gardeners, our people are the heart of every Hemingways experience. By investing in skills development, long-term career growth, and fair employment, we help strengthen the communities we call home—ensuring that the impact of every stay reaches far beyond our properties.
Meet the dreamers, guides, and wild places that bring Hemingways to life.
